Project Binbot
The smart trash bin mobile application
1. Project Summary
Sometimes doing housework adds burdens to living everyday life. Especially taking out the trash can be an added distraction and a discipline. If your trash bin is overflowing in your house and you miss trash day, your house is going to be chaotic and smelly for the whole week. Project Binbot supports ordinary people to lessen the pain points of controlling waste by exploring a smart way to live more conveniently.
2. Target Audience
First of all, I define the target audience as people who newly move out and/or live independently. These people are starting their careers or just got married and have a new family. They need to get used to taking care of all the housework during their busy lives. Therefore, Binbot can help these people to cut down the burden of the housework.

6. Final Design
For the final design, here are the five main pages of the Binbot mobile application. The first and second pages are the homepage of the Binbot. It is the most important page, so it contains general information about the smart trash bin. It includes the battery and weight of the current trash bin to show the live status, and a user can check the full schedule of the trash day and cleaning schedule and the Binbot’s route to shift the trash to the curbside pickup location. The last two pages are used to manage the trash day and monthly cleaning days.
7. Conclusion
Through this Binbot project, I found the pain points of users to throw out the trash on time. This smart trash bin is needed for ordinary people to reduce the burden of housework and save their time. To solve this problem, I identified the target audience and a primary persona to help create the structure of information architecture and user flow, and made a final mockup design to show how it works realistically on a mobile. As a UI/UX designer, this project showed me the relevant connection between upcoming “smart” technology and mobile application services that can help ordinary people lead their daily lives with less burden.
